Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar and Israel Ambassador to the Philippines Rafael Harpaz discussed on Friday, August 16, 2019, future collaborations that seek to enhance productivity of Filipino farmers. During the meeting, Dar discussed the eight paradigms that he has set in motion under his administration.
With Dar’s vision of a food secure Philippines with prosperous farmers and fishers, he notes that modernization and an efficient science and technology strategy as among the major drivers of rural development.
“This is the time to further elevate our profitability,” Dar said.
The agri chief also said that he is open to continue the existing partnership with Israel, particularly on water irrigation.
He said the solar power irrigation system of the previous DA administration is a good development but needs to be diligently and properly implemented.
“If the Philippine infrastructure (sector) has Build, Build, Build program, why not a Build, Build, Build for agriculture,” Dar stressed.
Dar also proposed for collaboration between Israel and state universities and colleges on the establishment of five advancement centers located at strategic areas.
These, according to Dar, will serve as a training area for young farmers, whom the DA will eventually tap as trainers to other farmers. ###
