The International Food Exhibition (IFEX) Philippines opened its doors once again on May 25-27, 2018 at the World Trade Center Manila, attracting around 1500 buyers from different countries. More than 500 local exhibitors showcasing the different food products of the Philippines participated.
Present during the opening ceremonies was Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol who stressed that Philippine Agriculture should consist of long term planning and a vision to fulfill the mandate of DA to provide available and affordable food for the people.
IFEX is one of the most attended food industry event with its roots tracing on a partnership between the Departments of Agriculture and Tourism.
For this year, IFEX Philippines featured the Best of the Seas highlighting the Philippines finest seafood products (fresh and processed) and cuisines to satisfy the growing global demand for marine exports along with other exquisite food products.
Other sectors that were showcased include Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic Beverages; Coffee, Herbal Teas and Cocoa products; Confectionary and Bakery Products; Fresh and Processed Fruits and Vegetables; Grains and Cereals; Herbs and Spices, Sauces and Condiments; Meat and Poultry; Natural, Healthy, Organic Products; Specialty, Ethnic and Gourmet Products; and services from the allied industries.
From 2011-2017, IFEX Philippines has welcomed around 6,600 international and local buyers, which translated to a total of US$365.65 million (M) or P18.78 billion (B) sales.
Organizers estimate $150M or more than P7.78 B worth of export and domestic sales generated by the loca l and international food exhibitors this year. ### (Carlos Cezar Baldosa, DA-AFID)
