The Department of Agriculture (DA) takes part in the global observance of the World Food Day (WFD) 2022 on October 17, 2022, at the DA Central Office in Quezon City. During the opening ceremony of the weeklong celebration, DA Senior Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban highlighted the continuous commitment of DA in the implementation of programs that aim to combat global hunger and malnutrition, and promote food safety.
In her keynote message, Senator Cynthia Villar encouraged DA personnel to double their efforts “to ensure that every Filipino, at all times, shall have access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food that meets their food preferences and dietary needs for an active and healthy life.”
Meanwhile, World Food Programme (WFP) Acting Country Director Dipayan Bhattacharyya, FAO Assistant Country Representative Tamara Palis Duran, and Quezon City Health Department Nutritionist Jirah Asa Sideco shared messages of support to the food security program of the Department.
The event was highlighted by an exhibit of DA initiatives geared to fight hunger and malnutrition and a showcase of different fresh and processed agricultural products. The National Meat Inspections Service and the National Dairy Authority also led the distribution of food packs to five mothers and ten daycare and elementary school children from Barangay Vasra, Quezon City.
