Officials and staff of the Philippine Department of Agriculture (DA) led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Senior Undersecretary Domingo F. Panganiban, joined Informa Markets in the opening ceremony of the Livestock and Aquaculture Philippines 2023 on July 5 at the World Trade Center Metro Manila, Pasay City.
Now on its sixth installment, the Livestock and Aquaculture Philippines, which will run until July 7 serves as a platform for various products, services, knowledge-sharing and capacity-building initiatives, and other offerings of key stakeholders in the livestock, poultry, and aquaculture subsectors to more than 10,000 farmers, fisherfolk, traders, buyers, and visitors from around the globe.
Members of the DA family—namely the National Livestock Program (NLP), Bureau of Animal Industry, National Meat Inspection Service, National Dairy Authority, Philippine Carabao Center, International Training Center on Pig Husbandry, Agricultural Training Institute, Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries, Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards, and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources —together with government financial institutions Development Bank of the Philippines and Land Bank of the Philippines exhibit their products and services through the DA Pavilion.
In his speech, the President, who is also the concurrent Agriculture Secretary reiterated the need to improve the agri-fishery-based livelihoods in the country and to address pressing issues in the sector—including the African Swine Fever, Avian Influenza, and inflation due to lack of food production and accessibility—in order to improve the income and conditions of farmers.
“It is only through cooperation such as this that we can realize our dreams of progressively expanding and modernizing the poultry and livestock industries in the Philippines,” Marcos said.
