The Department of Agriculture (DA) kicked-off the celebration of the agency’s 125th Founding Anniversary, with a simple program at the DA Compound in Quezon City.
The opening of the event, with the theme “Kagawaran ng Agrikultura:125 taong naglilingkod tungo sa masaganang agrikultura at maunlad na ekonomiya” was led by Senior Undersecretary Domingo F. Panganiban and Usec. Agnes T. Miranda who also chairs the 125th Anniversary celebration.
The agency, established on June 23, 1898, was among the first government offices created after the declaration of Philippine Independence. This move of then President Emilio Aguinaldo is a clear indication of the importance of the food production sector in nation building.
After the opening program, DA officials opened the photo exhibit, which features the accomplishment of DA under the current administration, and photos of DA employees through the years.
The weeklong festivities include a 5-day Kadiwa, which offers fresh farm produce at lower price, fun games, and a recognition ceremony of DA loyal employees.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is expected to grace the main event of the celebration. ### (photos by Gian Carlo Luague, DA-AFID)
