Agriculture Senior Undersecretary Domingo F. Panganiban and Governor Matthew Joseph M. Manotoc met on October 24, 2022 to discuss updates on Typhoon “Neneng” rehabilitation efforts and various agricultural projects in Ilocos Norte.
Based on the report conducted by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction, Management, and Resiliency (PDRRMC) and the Provincial Agriculture Office of Ilocos Norte on October 18, damage and losses to agricultural sector due to Typhoon “NENENG” reached at P82 million.
The Department of Agriculture (DA), through its Regional Field Offices (RFOs), prepared for the distribution of rice, corn and assorted vegetable seeds; drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry; fingerlings and assistance to affected fisherfolk from Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR); Survival and Recovery (SURE) Loan Program from the Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC) with loanable amount of up to PhP 25,000 payable in three years at zero interest; and Quick Response Fund (QRF) for the rehabilitation of affected areas to affected farmers and fishers.
The officials also discussed the status of the province’s cattle and goat production; the construction of the Ilocos Norte-Sur-Abra Irrigation Project; the rehabilitation of the Northern Food Corporation; and salt production for domestic supply and export market. ### (Kristel Joyce Merle/Alan Jacalan, DA-AFID)
