Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol helps officials of Camp General Macario G. Peralta Jr. in Jamindan, Capiz spread fish fingerlings in the local river to help raise food for soldiers in the camp and provide livelihood to local fisherfolk. Piñol visited Camp Peralta as part of his Biyaheng Bukid tour around the country to meet with farmers and fisherfolk and get direct feedback on their needs and requirements from the government to improve their lives. Piñol said the Department of Agriculture will help curb armed conflicts in rural areas by encouraging the use of available farm lands in military campsites to help provide food for the camp’s own soldiers provide livelihood to local farmers, whose poverty had always been a prime factor for their recruitment into armed rebel groups.
