Secretary Manny Piñol breaks ground for the 10.87-kilometer farm-to-market road that will connect Bugnay (Jordan) to Constancia and Sapal (San Lorenzo) to Maabay (Sibunag), all in the province of Guimaras, providing easier road access for the transport of fresh farm produce. The road networks, undertaken under the Philippine Rural Development Project, will reduce travel time by about 15%. In his message, Piñol announced that good accessible roads are one of the most important keys in a developed agriculture sector. As such, he encouraged the residents the monitor the project to assure that it is properly and efficiently undertaken, and that quality is maintained. Specifications for the project indicate the road should be 200 mm thick Portland Cement Concrete Pavement with a carriageway width of 5 meters, with slope protection in critical areas, concrete lined canal and Reinforce Concrete Pipe Culvert. The project will take about 410 days to finish and will serve close to 10,000 beneficiaries mostly mango growers.
