The Department of Agriculture (DA) has been recognized with a Special Award for Sustainability by the International Data Corporation (IDC) Singapore for its groundbreaking Philippine Rice Information System (PRiSM).
Developed in response to climate change challenges affecting Filipino farmers since 2013, PRiSM is a data-driven tool that maps rice fields, predicts yields, and monitors droughts and floods. It empowers farmers and policymakers with real-time, accurate information to make informed decisions that improve efficiency, mitigate risks, and bolster national food security.
The system represents a collaborative effort between DA, the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), and International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), among other partners. It combines digital innovation and proactive strategies to address pressing issues in the Philippine rice industry, from sustainability to inclusivity.
Director Glenn Dela Cruz Estrada accepted the award on behalf of the DA.
“This recognition is a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation in securing the future of our rice farmers and the nation’s food supply,” Estrada said.
The DA sees this achievement as a stepping stone in further strengthening the Philippine rice value chain, ensuring a resilient and inclusive industry for future generations. ###
