The “Buwan ng Kalutong Pilipino” or “Filipino Food Month” (FFM) is celebrated on the month of April every year, following the signing of Proclamation No. 469.
This nationwide initiative aims to raise appreciation, preserve, promote, and ensure that our rich culinary traditions and treasures are passed on to the future generations.
This year, FFM reflects the vibrancy of Filipino cooking and the strength of our young generation, under the theme “Kalutong Filipino, Lakas ng Kabataang Makabago”.
Through the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service of the Department of Agriculture (DA-AMAS), the trade fair, “Ang Sarap! Philippine Food Festival” is re-launched as one of FFM’s major activities to showcase the diverse flavors, ingredients, and culinary heritage of the Philippines.
“In our efforts to honor Filipino cuisine and culture, the DA family reveres our local farmers, fisherfolk, animal raisers, agripreneurs, food processors, and culinary geniuses as they bear the arduous task of producing sufficient, safe, nutritious, and delicious food for every table. They are our food heroes who transform our nation’s humble harvests into hearty meals that radiate the warmth, joy, and pride of being a Filipino,” said Engr. Christopher V. Morales, CESO II, Undersecretary for Rice Industry Development on behalf of DA Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel, Jr.
During Ang Sarap’s formal launch, DA reiterates its commitment to boost agricultural productivity and profitability, create more opportunities for the agri-fishery and food industries, enhance global competitiveness of our agri-, food-, and beverage-based enterprises, and attain food security nationwide under Sec. Tiu Laurel’s four-year plan.
The trade fair featured 65 booths representing regional participants (DA regional exhibitors, Young Farmers Challenge beneficiaries, Philippine Culinary Heritage Movement partners, various farmers and fisher enterprises, etc.) from all over the country.
The agri fair also served as a learning hub for Filipino food producers, experts, advocates, and enthusiasts as various fora and cooking demonstrations are witnessed. ### (Pamela Ruth Arciaga, DA-AFID)
