In a significant step towards enhancing bilateral relations between the Philippines and the Czech Republic, Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. met with Czech Agriculture Minister Marek Výborný during the latter’s official visit to the Philippines on March 21, 2024.
Secretary Tiu Laurel Jr. and Minister Výborný emphasized the robust collaboration between their countries, particularly in agriculture, following President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s recent trip to the Czech Republic. The meeting culminated in the signing of a Letter of Intent, signaling a commitment to further strengthen collaboration in agricultural initiatives. The signing was witnesses by DA Undersecretary Jerome V. Oliveros and the Czech Republic Ambassador to the Philippines, H.E. Karel Hejč.
Secretary Tiu Laurel Jr. emphasized the importance of investment in agriculture, particularly in key areas such as machinery, post-harvest technology, dairy production, and logistics infrastructure. These investments are fundamental to enhancing productivity, efficiency, and sustainability of the Philippine agriculture.
Both parties reaffirmed their mutual commitment towards the attainment of food security and promotion of sustainable agriculture practices. The meeting was a success in serving as a platform in exploring new avenues for cooperation and knowledge sharing between the Philippines and the Czech Republic.
