On September 26, 2023, delegates from the United Kingdom’s Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs paid a courtesy visit to Department of Agriculture (DA) Senior Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban to exchange ideas related to animal disease control, as well as explore areas of collaboration for livestock management and agricultural trade.
Professor Christine Middlemiss, Chief Veterinary Officer of the UK, led the delegation in showcasing the UK’s best practices in ensuring animal well-being through disease prevention via vaccination.
On the other hand, Dr. Paul Limson, Director of the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), elaborated on the Philippine program for enhancing animal health management through research for development and technology utilization.
Senior Undersecretary Panganiban noted the positive trade relationship between the Philippines and the UK in agriculture. The latter is the 9th top export destination for Philippine agriculture products.
“We are exporting some commodities to the other country and would like to increase it soon. President Marcos said we have to hit the global market so our products will be known. We are talking about ube and other commodities. We would like to see if such commodities can land in the UK’s market,” he said.
Other attendees at the meeting include representatives from the British Embassy Manila, BAI, and the DA Office of the Secretary. ###
