A total of 20 metric tons of frozen meat, valued at P50 million, were successfully apprehended by the Department of Agriculture Inspectorate and Enforcement (DAIE) from the GGF FROZEN SUSHI MERCHANDISE in San Fernando St., Sta Cruz, Manila.
The operation was conducted on June 20, 2023 in partnership with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), and Bureau of Customs (BOC).
The initiative is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to strengthen the Department’s fight against agricultural smuggling to guarantee food safety and food security.
According to DA Assistant Secretary James Layug, DA ensures that the storage facility will be shut down, while its owners will be held accountable for trading smuggled agri-fishery commodities.
A Chinese national was among the six suspects detained for violating RA 10845 and RA 10611. ###
