DA Senior Undersecretary Domingo F. Panganiban met with Canadian Minister Honorable Marie-Claude Bibeau, His Excellency Ambassador Peter MacArthur, and other government officials from the Agriculture and Agrifood Canada on the occasion of their visit to the Philippines on September 26, 2022.
During the meeting, the Senior Undersecretary highlighted the 36% increase in agriculture trade between the Philippines and Canada in 2021. However, the trade balance is still heavily in favor of Canada at USD 189.72 million
In addition to expanding the volume of Philippine exports to Canada, the DA official also cited the importance of securing the supply of key agricultural commodities such as fertilizer, pesticides, mechanically deboned meat (MDM), day-old chicks, among others, which are now badly needed by the Philippines to increase farm productivity and ensure food security in the country, amid the current disruptions being felt globally. ###
