Agriculture Undersecretaries Bernadette Romulo-Puyat and Ariel Cayanan (3rd and 5th from right), together with Financial and Management Service Director Miriam Cornelio (center), open the National Women’s Month exhibit at the lobby of the Department of Agriculture office in Quezon City on March 20, 2017, which highlights the DA’s month-long celebration for the triumphs of Filipinas in agriculture across the nation. The exhibit features the 2016 Outstanding Rural Women who were recognized for their invaluable contribution to rural development and overall improvement of food production in the country. Top winner Jocelyn Moya-Hekrdle from Barangay Bandila, Toboso, Negros Occidental bagged the highest honor in the Search for her initiatives in providing livelihood opportunities for her neighbors while conserving the environment. Hekrdle, who lives near the sea with her husband Kevin, transformed sea humus, which were commonly considered as wastes, into organic fertilizer. (photo by Gian Carlo Luague/DA-AFID)
