Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol discusses with Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque the formulation of concrete steps to address national concerns on rabies. During a meeting on March 16, 2018, the agri chief committed to intensify further DA’s rabies vaccination program on animals to curb the spread of the virus and compensate for the shortage of rabies vaccine on humans. With an estimate of one million animal bites every year, DOH discloses that the agency is 31% short of rabies vaccine for humans due to lack of supplies. Pampanga, Cebu, and Pangasinan remain the top provinces with the highest animal rabies cases based on 2017 stats from DOH while CAR region has the highest vaccination accomplishment.
