DA Undersecretary for Operations Ariel Cayanan formally opened the celebration of the Organic Agriculture Month on November 12, 2018 at the Department of Agriculture’s central office in Quezon City.
Bearing the theme “Organic Agriculture- advancing the local food culture movement in the Philippines” seeks to raise the bars on the achievements by the DA’s National Organic Agriculture Program (NOAP). The banner program has been part of the main thrusts of DA in order to propagate and support the organic agriculture industry in the country through various activities and campaigns in line with the RA 10068 also known as the Organic Agriculture Act of 2010.
Cayanan reminded the participants during his speech to take time in preparing real foods despite today’s fast-paced style of living where fast foods and the use of preservatives are rampant.
“People think that they are able to do more when consuming these kinds of food in the expense of their health. We should always choose balanced diet over convenience,” he added.
He also underscored the importance of remembering our traditional and natural methods of farming despite the emergence of technology in agriculture.
Republic Act 10068 pushes for the promotion, development, and implementation of organic agriculture in the Philippines to enrich the fertility of the soil, increase farm productivity, while reducing pollution and destruction of the environment and depletion of natural resources and preserving the health of Filipino farmers ### (Carlos Cezar Baldosa, DA-AFID)
